I always love a cottage-y, Muskoka-ish styled wedding, at a beautiful venue with a beautiful and super fun couple! Devon & Steve's wedding at Hidden Valley Resort was laid back, relaxed, and easy-breezy, just like the two of them! I started at 2pm with some quick getting ready coverage with Devon and her girls at a super awesome AirBnB they rented, just a couple minutes from the venue. We followed up with a First Look between Devon & Steve, then some shots on the road outside the home (the light was so dreamy and the backdrop was perfectly "Muskoka"). Devon loves bright, poppy colours - so just wait til you see this collection – from the hot pink flowers and fun sunglasses, to the boy's bright blue suits - it's cheerfulness from beginning to end! And what an end – that sunset!
You can see where this is going, this whole group was a blast to spend the day with!
The First Look
This AirBnB that Devon & Steve rented for their wedding weekend was incredible! With a long wrap-around balcony that overlooked the lake, it was the perfect spot for their first look! Of course Ernie, their fur baby, had to tag along (I'm a huge advocate for involving your pets in the wedding day!)
We needed to do a little lipstick touch-up after the first look, since most of it ended up on Steve!
Wedding Party + Bride & Groom Portraits
We literally walked out the front door of the AirBnB into this photographer's paradise! The backlight...ugh, I still swoon. It was important to capture fun, quirky, whimsical pics with this group – it's what Devon loves, and what I love to do!
Devon, though. She stole the show – and that dress!
Hidden Valley Resort Beach Wedding Ceremony & Reception
After photos, we packed up and head down the road just a bit further to the venue – a quaint little resort that lives up to it's name - hidden in the hills and on the lake. Their ceremony was held on a tiny beach area beneath the trees with the lake in the background and their closest friends and family (and so many little kids!).
And as an FYI, they DIY'd all their gorgeous flowers, from the bouquets to centerpieces.
...and more portraits!
While all their guests mingled and head back to the main building for the indoor/outdoor cocktail reception on the second level patio overlooking the lake, we wrapped up some fun family photos, and a little bit more with the wedding party and Devon & Steve.
This next one wasn't my idea...the boys were just very proud of how good their behinds looked in their dress pants.
All I have to say it – Devon & Steve had the CAKE OF MY DREAMS. All their wedding decor was rustic and DIY'd, and it all came together beautifully! The reception was casual and full of mingling, games, and amazing food – the perfect combination!
The Cheese Cake
It is literally a CHEESE. CAKE. A cake, made out of cheese. After Devon & Steve...ahem, cut the cheese...it was then plated and handed out family style to each table to snack on!
...and of course, some goodnight kisses.
And goodnight, Huntsville!
I'd shoot Devon & Steve's wedding again in a heartbeat! The casual pace and easy-going vibe of the entire day was so very "Muskoka" and "Cottage" it was an absolute pleasure! I'm still a little sad my coverage ended before the firepit and smores station opened up...but I still got to enjoy the cheese cake! Thanks so much for everything guys, wishing you all the happily ever afters possible! xoxo Shawn
